Leveling Route · Quest Maps · Lures · Fishing Gear · Cooking

All Profession Ranks · Alliance and Horde · New Forever Items

Fishing is a secondary profession. In WoW Forever, from skill 1 to 300, you can catch fish for Cooking, useful buffs, and sales. This leveling route combines the easy starting waters from my Classic Fishing Guide with the new camping items, trainer locations, and Artisan quest from Nat Pagle.

How skill points work: Successful catches matter, not the difficulty of the water. Higher effective Fishing skill from your rod, lures, or food prevents fish from escaping; it does not let you skip a profession rank.

Getting Started with Fishing: What’s New?

Getting Started

Get a Fishing Pole and Lures

Buy a Fishing Pole and some Shiny Baubles from a fishing supplies vendor. Equip the pole, put Fishing on your action bar, cast, and click the bobber when it splashes.

Skill Rules

Catches Earn Skill Points

A catch in an easy zone can increase your permanent skill just like one in Tanaris. Move to harder waters if you want specific fish for Cooking, gold, or quests. Lures reduce failed catches.

Pairing Professions

Fish and Cook

Brilliant Smallfish, Longjaw Mud Snappers, Bristle Whisker Catfish, Mithril Head Trout, and later salmon can all be used in the Cooking Guide. Raw fish can also sell well at the Auction House; compare raw and cooked prices.

Leveling Fishing: 1–150

Here, the colored cards indicate stages, not recipe colors: every successful catch can award a point until you need to unlock the next rank.

1–75

Starting Zone · Fishing Pole and Baubles

Elwynn Forest, Mulgore, Durotar, Dun Morogh, Tirisfal Glades, or Teldrassil. Stay in the starting waters until 75. Save raw fish for Cooking.
75–150

Learn Journeyman · Capital City Waters

Train Journeyman as early as skill 50 and character level 10. Then fish to 150 in Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Thunder Bluff, Undercity, or Darnassus. Use Nightcrawlers from skill 50 if fish escape.
About Fishing Lures: Shiny Bauble provides +25 from skill 1, Nightcrawlers +50 from skill 50. A lure temporarily increases effective Fishing skill and reduces failed catches; it does not grant permanent skill points.

Leveling Fishing: 150–225

Expert Fishing Comes from a Book

At Fishing 125 and character level 20 buy Expert Fishing – The Bass and You from Old Man Heming in Booty Bay, on the lower level near the fishing sign /way #1434 27.4 77.0. Read the book before your skill becomes capped at 150.

150–225

Dustwallow Marsh or Stranglethorn Vale

Inland waters in Dustwallow Marsh make the later trip to Nat Pagle convenient. Stranglethorn Vale is an alternative. Keep Bright Baubles on your pole if fish escape.

For Cooking, catch Bristle Whisker Catfish and Mithril Head Trout in suitable freshwater areas. In Dustwallow Marsh, fish the inland lakes ; the coast yields different fish species.

Accept the Quest Before Fishing

At level 35 and Fishing 225 visit Nat Pagle in Dustwallow Marsh /way #1445 58.6 60.0 and accept Nat Pagle, Angler Extreme . Only then catch the four quest fish in their respective waters. Bring all four back to Nat to unlock skill up to 300.

Feralas · Freshwater for Cooking Fish

After the Artisan quest, fish in Feralas lakes and rivers, but avoid Lake Jademir. Use Bright Baubles or stronger lures: most higher-level zones require an effective Fishing skill of around 300 for reliably successful catches.
For Cooking

Save Nightfin Snapper, Sunscale Salmon, and Whitescale Salmon. Gikkix in Tanaris sells suitable recipes for your final Cooking skill points. Sunscale Salmon are caught during the day, while Nightfin Snapper are more common at night.

For Selling

Other possible zones include Tanaris, Felwood, the Hinterlands, Un’Goro Crater, and Western Plaguelands. Compare the value of your catches with the time spent and the cost of lures.
