Leveling route 1–300 · Schematics · Merchant’s Favor
Engineering in WoW Forever
Source guide updated: October 3, 2026 · complete guide 1–300.
Engineering combines bombs, goggles, technical equipment and useful gadgets for your travels. Mining is a good second profession because you need plenty of stones and bars. Some schematics are taught by trainers; others come from vendors, loot or the new Merchant’s Favor system.
Leveling route 1–300: Quantities are estimates; yellow and green recipes do not always grant a skill point. Buy expensive metals in stages.
Keep a Blacksmith Hammer and, later, an Arclight Spanner in your bags. Some crafts also require an anvil. Check the recipe for its exact requirements.
Engineering trainers and profession ranks
Learn the next rank in time: Journeyman at skill 50/level 10, Expert at 125/level 20. In Forever, a new character can learn Apprentice without the usual minimum character level. Artisan at 200/level 35 unlocks progression beyond 225.

More starting trainers & a note for new races
In Durotar, find Mukdrak in Razor Hill; in Dun Morogh, Bronk Guzzlegear is at Steelgrill’s Depot. Night elves can visit Jenna Lemkenilli in Auberdine (Darkshore). On Zephras Isle, look for the Strange Hermit in the Shadowwind Forest. Darnassus and Thunder Bluff have no Engineering trainer. Ask a city guard to mark the trainer on your map.
Twizwick Sprocketgrind is another Apprentice trainer in Mulgore. His plateau is reached through the Venture Co. Mine; the journey is difficult at low character levels.
Tools, racial bonus and useful extras
Tools keep them in your bags
Blacksmith Hammer Buy one from a profession vendor, Arclight Spanner craft one yourself from skill 50, and make a Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor around skill 194. These are tools required by recipes, not direct skill bonuses.
Gnomes in Forever changed racial bonus
Gnomes no longer receive +15 Engineering here. Instead, their technical devices fail 20% less often. The material plan therefore applies to gnomes just as it does to other races.
Legacy fewer failed skill-ups on yellow recipes
Working Overtime increases your chance of gaining a crafting skill point across five ranks by up to 20%. Dedicated Study can grant a point to your currently lowest profession. Both bonuses affect material consumption, not the required profession rank.
Camp devices new in Forever
The Reagent Bot sells reagents at your camp (skill 20). The Blueprint: Repair Bot can drop from Sneed in the Deadmines: from skill 140, the Repair Bot provides reagents and repairs equipment at your camp. It is not required for the leveling route.
Specializations: Goblin and Gnomish Engineering, with their exclusive devices, become relevant at higher character levels. Each specialization has its own level and quest requirements.
Get a Blacksmith Hammer before you start: in Dun Morogh, buy it from Thrawn Boltar in Kharanos. On Zephras Isle, buy it from Aedi Thriceforged in Shen’dar.
Materials for the leveling route
Yellow recipes only have a chance to grant a skill point. Quantities are estimates; allow a reserve for yellow stages. Components crafted earlier are reused in later steps and should not be bought twice.

Up to 225 · main route
The 120 Solid Stones produce 60 Solid Blasting Powders. You use 20 of these before 225. Buy or gather them depending on prices; the alternative below may be cheaper.
225–300 · additional materials later
Estimates for the continuation. Yellow steps may require extra bars, cloth and stones; the 40 spare Solid Blasting Powders from the main route are used for bombs.
Total Mithril: 158 bars for the planned crafts, split into 68 before 225 and 90 afterwards. The split depends on how many Mithril Casings it takes to reach 225; additional attempts require more bars.
Engineering 1–225: leveling guide
Follow the steps in this order. Orange indicates guaranteed skill points; yellow indicates a chance of skill points or a color change within the step. Crafting quantities are targets, not guaranteed minimums.
Important from 200: Artisan requires character level 35. Learn it before continuing and check the recipes for Unstable Trigger and Mithril Casing with the Artisan trainer before buying Mithril and Mageweave.

Flying Tiger Goggles
About five goggles require 30× Light Leather and 10× Tigerseye. Compare this with the cost of five Silver Bars for Silver Contacts.
Recipe from a Journeyman trainer.
Iron Grenade instead of 60× powder
First craft about 10 Solid Blasting Powders from 20 Solid Stones. Then craft Iron Grenades about 20 times: 20 Iron Bars, 20 Heavy Blasting Powders and 20 Silk Cloth. The extra Heavy Blasting Powder needs 20 Heavy Stones. Additional attempts may be needed.
You will then still need 10 Solid Blasting Powders from 20 Solid Stones for the 20 Unstable Triggers. This means 40 Solid Stones are planned before 225. The later bombs require another 40 powders from 80 stones: 120 Solid Stones across the full route. This alternative shifts the crafting order and adds iron, Heavy Stone and silk; it does not automatically save gold on a full route to 300.
Expensive Moss Agates? You can replace some of the 10 Standard Scopes (125–135) with extra Heavy Blasting Powder crafts. Then continue as above and keep the components needed for the sheep.

More useful schematics: where do they come from?
The leveling route mainly requires trainer recipes. Other sources are useful for equipment and practical gadgets:
Blueprint: Repair Bot
Drops from Sneed in the Deadmines. Builds a bot for repairs and reagent purchases at your camp.
Schematic: EZ-Thro Dynamite
World drop from various enemies; alternatively, check the Auction House. This throwable variant requires less Engineering to use than regular explosives.
Schematic: EZ-Thro Dynamite II
Sold by Blizrik Buckshot in Gadgetzan (Tanaris). Practical once you meet the level requirements and can travel there.
Schematic: Thorium Widget and Schematic: Thorium Tube
The two vendor schematics for the later leveling route are linked above alongside their faction and seller.
No confirmed source: Some new safety gadgets have no confirmed vendor, quest giver or drop source. Do not assume a fixed location until Forever data and in-game testing confirm it.
Merchant’s Favor: 28 new Engineering schematics
The new profession vendors offer 28 schematics for 45, 180, 270 or 360 Merchant’s Favor each; at skill 300, there is also a certification for 1,000. The dropdowns list the skill requirement, a clickable schematic scroll and the practical use of each recipe. None of these purchases is needed for the inexpensive route to 225.
